Cellphones that were once only used for phone calls have evolved in smartphones — supercomputers that deliver results. And while there is an ongoing debate regarding the importance of these devices, and their interruption of face-to-face social interaction, the tremendous technological solutions downloaded within these handheld devices cannot be argued, especially when placed in the proper hands.

There are technology warriors in this world who design and implement solutions with the sheer purpose of only helping others. These individuals and companies are championing the idea of making a difference by providing the tools we need to aid in their crusade: Ending human trafficking. Now, we can all join the fight with a simple app download.

How Can the TraffickCam App Help?

Human trafficking victims are often ushered through hotel rooms throughout the world, as part of the abusive patterns they are subjected to by the evil minds holding them hostage. Law enforcement authorities, including the FBI review images of human trafficking victims who are advertised by their abusers, scouring the pictures, notable surroundings, and any identifiable objects or signs that will provide a hint of their location.

Enter the TraffickCam App. When the app is downloaded, it allows users to take simple pictures of the hotel rooms they stay in when traveling, and seamlessly allows them to be uploaded to the app’s database. The image will include a GPS tag of the location and stores it with the images. When traffickers upload pictures of their captives in hotel rooms, the images are analyzed against the photos uploaded by TraffickCam app users. When there is a match, law enforcement can move in on the exact location. With an 85% success rate, the FBI implores travelers to continue saving lives all over the world by simply uploading images of the locations where they are already staying.

Truckers Against Trafficking

Truckers Against TraffickingDeveloped by: http://truckersagainsttrafficking.org/

How Can the Truckers Against Trafficking App Help?

Truckers Against Trafficking has developed an app that allows the 3.5 million truck drivers in the United States to identify and report information related to human trafficking. In doing so, they are inviting the far-reaching trucking industry into the forefront of playing an active role in saving the lives of victims who may otherwise go unnoticed in travel plazas and truck stops across the country.

The app invites anyone in the trucking industry to partner with the local authorities and the FBI to recover victims by reporting suspicious activities. Packed with information about human trafficking and red flag indicators, truckers and trucking industry professionals — from gas station attendants whose services are frequented by commercial vehicles to warehousing employees who can potentially identify large spaces being used for more than storage — can help save lives by understanding the signs of human trafficking and reporting them to the proper law enforcement officials.
